If you’ve heard the buzz around ai-generated art but aren’t quite sure where to begin, allow me to introduce you to Midjourney – one of the most captivating new tools that has taken the creative world by storm.
Creating helpful content is key for small business owners looking to attract ideal customers. Because it shows that you understand people’s problems. Additionally, adding visuals makes the content more interesting and attention-grabbing. However, even great content can fall flat if no one sees it.
But understand that search engines like Google love to recommend content that deeply engages readers who are looking for solutions. This makes creating helpful, engaging content critical for reaching your target audience.
So by weaving informative posts with eye-catching AI images from Midjourney, you keep visitors engaged as they learn about your products and services. It’s this increased engagement that signals to Google that your content deserves better search rankings. In turn, higher rankings lead to better website visibility and more potential customers.
But there is a problem – finding good affordable images isn’t easy. Sure there are images available, but they are expensive, and that is where Midjourney comes in!
Simply describe your product or service or whatever kind of image you need and the generative software will create it.
That is why I created this beginner’s guide. To help you understand the ins and outs of this new AI image generator, Midjourney. Here I have outlined exactly what Midjourney is, why it’s so revolutionary, and how you can start using it today to unlock your own inner AI artist by creating high quality images for your business at an affordable price.
So What Exactly is Midjourney?
Its an artificial intelligence tool that creates stunning original images and other forms of art such as graphic design from text descriptions that you type in. All you have to do is describe anything you can imagine, and let the AI do the rest. It will generate completely original, elaborate art based on your words alone within seconds.
The software has been trained on a massive database of artwork to understand artistic concepts, styles, and techniques. So when you give it a prompt like “a majestic fantasy landscape with mountains and a shining castle,” Midjourney starts piecing together elements from its database to synthesize a brand new image that matches your description.
Midjourney For Small Business
As a small business owner, we all need marketing materials on a limited budget. The problem is professional graphic designers can be expensive, stock images generic, and DIY design software time-consuming to learn.
Fortunately, tools like Midjourney allow anyone to instantly generate eye-catching, customized images simply by describing what you want in a text prompt. You don’t need any technical skills or artistic talent. All you need is to describe the image that you would like to create!
For example, you could generate:
- Stylized logos that represent your brand identity in seconds. No more spending hours tweaking designs on sites like Canva.
- Unique social media post images that grab attention and convey your messaging with visuals tailored specifically to your business.
- Custom graphics and banners for your website, ads, flyers, brochures, etc. that look professional and on-brand every time.
- Imaginative images for blog posts that captures your readers’ attention and creatively illustrates your posts.
It is like having your own personal digital art studio that can create jaw-dropping images and artworks just from the text descriptions you give it.
Real Life Examples
To demonstrate exactly what I mean let’s have a look. Suppose you type into the Midjourney interface something like this.
Midjourney will return the image below, which as you can see are actually four very similar images to what you requested above. You will then select the ones that you like the best and Mijourney will perfect them as individual images that can be used for all sorts of designs.
Why Try Midjourney for AI Art Creation?
I have been using Midjourney for a while now and although I have tried other AI art generation tools Midjourney stands out far from the rest because of the originality, quality, and photorealism of the images it can produce.
I do think that it is fair to mention at this point that although many AI art generators are free, this one will cost you $30 per month. There is a $10 option, but it doesn’t provide enough images for most users, which will leave you disappointed and wishing you had chosen a higher tier plan that allowed for more image generation.
What sets Midjourney apart from the AI image generators is that, unlike other AI art generators that simply create variations of pre-existing art, Midjourney’s Diffusion model allows it to imagine ideas and scenes that don’t exist yet. This makes each image completely one-of-a-kind.
When given a prompt, the software starts piecing together elements from its database to synthesize a brand new image that matches the description of your request. So even though it costs $30 per month, you’re getting what you pay for!
Midjourney produces images with incredible detail at high resolutions. And you even have fine-tuned control with options to vary style, lighting, angle, color, and more. You now even have the option that if you don’t like a part of your image to change that one section while leaving the rest of the art untouched.
Users can even upload their own images to use as a reference thus creating new images similar to the original.
Here are a couple of additional examples of images that I have created with Midjourney.
A while back a plumber asked me to generate a logo for his website that I was building. Naturally, I used Midjourney and not only did it save him money, but it saved me time while giving an on-brand solution tailored to his business.
Then my friend needed some images for his pool business. Here’s one that incorporated lush green trees and a sunny sky.
Getting Started with Midjourney on Discord
Although there are plans for a website, one of the few downsides of Midjourney is that currently, it is only accessible through an app known as Discord. As of this writing, the software is in what is known as Beta which means although it is still open to the public, it is still being developed.
But, once you get past the initial overwhelm of creating images on Discord, you will be glad you did. In fact, once you get used to creating graphics for social media posts, logos for your stationery, and images for your blog posts you will wonder how you ever got along without a tool like Midjourney in the past and why you spent so much money on your artwork in the past.
If you’ve read up to this point, you probably have some interest in getting quality artwork for your business. So let’s take a look at how to start.
Here’s a Quick Step-By-Step Beginners Guide to Using Midjourney:
- Begin by joining Midjourney by going to https://www.midjourney.com
- Once on the Midjourney homepage, click on “Join the Beta” in the lower right corner. This will allow you to use the Discord app that we talked about earlier either as a separate app or as a web page – either way is fine depending on your comfort zone.
- You will next be asked for some basic information which you can go ahead and fill in. Midjourney just wants to know what to call you and to make sure that you are human.
- Once you are in Discord, scroll down the left hand column to the #newbies channel.
- Then simply type /imagine, in the prompt field followed by what you would like to create and the AI does the rest. For example, to generate an image, of a futuristic city, type a text prompt like “/imagine a futuristic city.”
- Midjourney will quickly generate 4 image variations based on your prompt.
- If you don’t like what you see, you can continue iterating variations by clicking the reload button until you find an image that matches what you had in mind
- Next select one or more images that you would like to improve upon, by selecting the corresponding (“U” or upgrade button )button below the set of 4 images. Midjourney numbers the 4 images beginning with the upper left being #1 with the one to it’s right being #2. From left to right the bottom row are numbered 3 and 4
- Should you like one or more of the 4 images, but aren’t quite ready to upgrade them yet, you can select the corresponding “V” button and Midjourney will create more variations of only those images.
- When you have an image you love, right click and save it to your device.
Of course, as you become more experienced there is a lot more you can do, but the steps listed above will be enough to get you started.
It may take a few tries to get used to phrasing the perfect prompts, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t get just what you are looking for right away – there is a learning curve. But with some practice, you will be getting the images you want in no time!
